Adults, teenagers, and even children struggle every day to meet the standards of work, school, and sports, but why do we make such an effort to meet the standards of society? Why does society get to set these standards for people? How does society set these standards? Who does society set these standards for? Unrealistic standards are set by high end companies in the modeling industry, fashion industry, media, and Hollywood that tell and show how a girl or guy should look. These standards that are expected of people kill body image and self-esteem because obtaining a "perfect body" is nearly impossible, but people don't realize that. Teenagers try to improve the way they look by trying to look like someone else. They will undergo plastic surgery just to have the perfect nose and not eat for days on end just to lose a few pounds. These industries shouldn't be telling people who are influenced by them, how they should look. No one looks the same and that's how it's supposed to be. My purpose here is to help young adults and teenagers be happy with their physical appearance by breaking the standards of society and boost self esteem because no one has the right to tell you what or who you should look like.
